Dressing Up

We all know that a great number of women put a lot of time, money, and effort into dressing up for a special occasion. They plan days (and sometimes weeks) in advance, spend hours browsing through Sophia Tolli dresses, then spend nearly an entire day getting ready for the special night. Sometimes it's necessary for men to dress to impress, whether it be for an important lunch with a client, a cocktail party, or even a first date. Since women put so much energy into looking their finest, it's only fair to ask that men put in half of that effort. It's not that complicated when you really consider the options, and you do not have to have a safe full of platinum bullion in order to afford these pieces. In this article, you will find the essentials that men should own when they need to dress up for that special occasion.

Obviously, one thing every man needs to have is a nice black suit. One that is tailored, in good shape, and preferably single-breasted. Best to steer away from trendy cuts, or suits made of wool or other warm fabric. Sure, you may only wear this suit at your annual Christmas party or when your boss has a housewarming party at his condo on Oakville real estate, but you will most definitely feel ridiculous if you are the only person there without a suit or wearing a suit that's in bad condition. A white dress shirt is a must-have for suits. White shirts never go out of style and they look great with just about anything. Even better, they can also be worn under a dark sweater with just the collar and cuffs showing - a classic look reminiscent of Cary Grant and other 1940s Hollywood screen gems.

A pressed pair of slacks is another thing that every man should have hanging up in his closet. They should be dark (black, brown or navy will do), multi-seasonal, and tailored. If you are looking into Mississauga wedding venues with your fiancée, when you do not need to wear a suit but jeans are not appropriate, slacks are the perfect option. Having a few pairs on hand would be best, in different colours.

Another great thing to have in your closet is a classic sweater. Choose your favourite style, whether it be crew, v-neck or a cardigan. They are particularly useful when going to a function where a suit is not appropriate, such as a more casual first date. And let me tell you, nothing says 'hug me, touch me, squeeze me' like a nice soft sweater.

Now that we have all of the essential clothing covered, it's time to get to the shoes and accessories. A variety of ties are great for dressing up. They can be worn with a suit for the formal occasion or can be worn under a sweater if you are browsing through condos downtown, Toronto high rise lofts, or houses in suburbia. It's great to have some different coloured ties in order to be able to mix and match. The last thing to have in your closet is a good pair of shoes with a matching belt. Best to go with black, but brown or gray will do as well.

If you have all or most of these items in your closet, you will be set to dress up for any occasion, no matter how formal.
