Dress To Impress

When you're dressing for a job interview there is always that question of whether or not it really matters what you wear. If you're applying to show Toronto condominiums as a real estate agent the person hiring might want to know if you're able to look the part. But, things are a little less black and white if you're applying to be a kindergarten teacher or to work on a factory floor where you will certainly not be expected to come into work every day in a suit and tie. Here are some tips for how you should dress no matter what interview you're going to.

The main tip is to not give them a reason to not hire you with your clothes. If you're looking in the mirror before you leave wondering if your skirt is too short or your shirt is too tight than it is. Always go with something conservative over something more daring. If you're applying for an Edmonton spa, for instance, you want them to remember you for your great credentials not for your outfit. This applies for men as well. Always go for something slightly more dressed up than you think you need to be.

Scope out what the people who already are working there are wearing. It's always a good idea to dress just a little more formally than how you will be expected to dress on the job. If you're working in a condos Edmonton office that might mean a conservative suit in a solid colour and simple heels. If you're applying to work on homes as a contractor that might mean just wearing a button down shirt with some khaki pants.

Don't just think about the outfit and leave it there. It's also important to think about your hair, jewelry, and makeup. The key is still to keep it simple and well put together. It's a good idea to keep your hair out of your face so that you're not playing with it too much in the interview and can look everyone right in the eye. This could mean a tight bun if you're applying to clean Port Perry homes or it could mean a playful ponytail if you're applying to work in a funky shop on your town's main street. You should definitely take the time to put on some makeup but keep it light. You're just looking for a polished fresh face.

The best outfit for an interview will be one that you can just forget about once you've put it on. That way you can concentrate on highlighting all of the wonderful things that are in your resume Ottawa or Toronto based. Your outfit should be another thing that compliments you, not distracts from you.
