Clothing Donations

There are so many ways that you can help those around you. Some choose to donate money while others opt for giving some of their time. And then there is the donation of some of your possessions. Many organizations, from those that seek to help locals get a job at an Avaya IP office to those working overseas, hugely appreciate the donation of clothing and household items. And there are even some that offer a tax receipt, like you would get if you were giving over some of your hard-earned money. Here are some of the leading charities that accept clothing donations and what they do with them.

The Salvation Army is one of the largest charitable organizations in the world and works with the homeless in North America, who you might even see around London Ontario homes, all the way to those dealing with the affects of natural disasters and war throughout the third world. There are hundreds of thrift stores run by this organization throughout the country where you can donate clothing and household items that you no longer have use for. If you are doing a complete spring-cleaning of your possessions, from your closets to doing a cell phone audit than donating unwanted items is a great way to give back and get rid of these things. Other charitable organizations that run thrift stores in Canada are Goodwill, Value Village, and May Court, among several others.

Many people get phone calls from the Canadian Diabetes Association throughout the year asking for clothing donations and might wonder how this translates into money for their organization. They have a partnership with Value Village and that's where your clothing and other used items are sold. If you don't have time to get to a donations centre or would need to get an Oakville airport taxi to lug all of your items to a thrift store you might want to call the CDA instead. They can come right to your home and pick up your donation.

The next option when wanting to donate clothing is to look for a clothing drive in your area. These usually come up where there is a special need for additional support in some area of the world. For instance, you might have seen clothing drives in the last year to support those in Haiti who are still living without homes. If you know of an area that could use this type of support and don't see anyone organizing a clothing drive you could even do one yourself. Take some time away from your Thermage Edmonton appointment and running after the kids to get involved. All you have to do is find an organization in the area that will accept your donations.
