Casual Clothing

Ladies' casual clothing is the spice of life for the designer and the fashionista alike. It's a huge category that encompasses everything you might wear should there be no restrictions of the moment; no need to impress a boss while trying to sell modern bathroom vanity pieces, no need to worry about stuffed up evening parties at a Courtice real estate convention. Casual clothing covers everything from swim wear to around the house garb that you bought with the intention of using a treadmill at a trendy gym, and will probably make up the majority of the clothing in your wardrobe. Casual clothing is also the perfect fit for a session with your Toronto in home personal trainer.

Because casual clothing is so broad, it's impossible to cover all the trends in one piece. For our last installment of our spring fashion series, we will just take a look at some of what we think are the major highlights in casual wear for 2009. We will try to keep them as broadly applicable as possible, but in a few cases we single out some very occasion specific trends.

Asymmetry: Straps on one shoulder are huge this year, and the style applies to blouses, dresses, swimsuits, and everything in between. No more blocking that beautiful shoulder line in any way; this trend is one that almost every woman can embrace. You'll see versions of this coming out of trendy downtown condos and lounging in the summer sun at Fenelon Falls Cottages.

Fun colours: Bright colour combinations are in for all sorts of casual wear; take a look at the collection from Anna Sui. From tops to skirts to accessories, bright is definitely it this spring. The exception is in swim wear, where blacks and greys seem to emerge as dominant. The look on the spring streets around the Wanless Park real estate community will look as bright as a flower garden this spring!

The boy look: The boy look is absolutely huge this year. We don't know what it says about the laws of attraction for men or for women when dressing like a 10 year old boy at a prep school works for girls and guys, but work it does. We've talked about boyfriend jeans, but baggy school pants, trousers, and blazers are all a part of the boy casual look this year. But this look seems to be more for those looking for acne treatment than Edmonton botox!

Sexy: Forget tight, just reveal. That seems to be a big trend this spring. Bare midriffs are in, not just the peek we saw in seasons past. It's waist to sternum this time around. If you're uncomfortable with that, the sheer top is also in, and you can combine the two to feel less exposed.
